Frequently Asked Questions
What percentage should I tip?
The standard tip is 15-20% of the pre-tax bill. 15% is considered standard, 18% for good service, and 20% for excellent service.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Traditionally, tips are calculated on the pre-tax amount. However, many people tip on the total bill including tax.
How do I split the bill evenly?
Enter the number of people in the "Split" field. The calculator will divide the total evenly among all people.
What if I want to tip a specific amount instead of a percentage?
This calculator uses a tip percentage, not a fixed dollar amount. Enter the bill amount and the tip percentage to get the tip, the total, and—when you split the bill—the amount each person pays.
